In 2011, the city of Frankfort, Michigan bought the landmark lighthouse at the mouth of its harbor from the National Park Service. By 2023, city leaders had come to the conclusion that they didn’t have the means to maintain it, and reached out to the community to form a non-profit to undertake fundraising for its restoration and maintenance. Several local citizens stepped up to start a group called “Save the Lighthouse,” and reached out to me for a logo. I created a simple high contrast image to reflect the lighthouse’s iconic stature, and then incorporated the city’s name to form the breakwater and populated it with tourists and locals alike.
